Fundraising

6th grade is selling candy bars!

To kick off a great year, we will be selling Hershey's candy bars to raise money for field work and graduation.

Each child received a permission slip containing the necessary information about the fundraiser. If you would like your child to participate and sell a box, please return the slip with a REFUNDABLE 10$ deposit.

Once either the money from the sold chocolate, or the unsold candy bars have been returned, the deposit will be returned to you.

We hope you can participate! :)

Design Principle of the Month!

What are the Design Principles?

---> The design principles express the philosophy of education and core values of Expeditionary Learning.

Design Principle #1: "The Primacy of Self Discovery"  Learning happens best with emotion, challenge and the requisite support. People discover their abilities, values, passions, and responsibilities in situations that offer adventure and the unexpected. In Expeditionary Learning schools, students undertake tasks that require perseverance, fitness, craftsmanship, imagination, self-discipline, and significant achievement. A teacher’s primary task is to help students overcome their fears and discover they can do more than they think they can.

I am proud to recognize Trenity Holmes as the student of the month. Congratulations Trenity, keep up the excellent work!

Chalk Talk

Good Afternoon!

Below are some pictures of a classroom activity based on the 12 causes of the fall of the Roman empire using an Expeditionary Learning protocol called "Chalk Talk"

Students were presented with the 12 problems through a spirit read, then asked to sort the problems with a small group. Next, they make connections between the problems and provided possible solutions to the problems.

STUDENT OF THE MONTH!!!

I am proud to present Zachary Ferrusi as student of the month for the month of February!

Character Trait of the month: Forgiveness

Interview with Zach:

Q:What does forgiveness mean to you?

A:To me, forgiveness means being able to accept others apologies and move forward. I do not hold grudges towards others because I am not a negative person

Why I chose Zach:

I chose Zach for student of the month for the trait of forgiveness because he displays not only this, but many other positive traits on a daily basis. When confrontations arise, Zach is always forgiving and never holds grudges against others, he is quite the role model!
